1

Rehoboth Beach, DE

Surf โ€ข Pier โ€ข Nearshore
Kingfish โ€” HOT Spot โ€” WARM Sea Bass (nearshore wrecks) โ€” WARM Flounder (surf) โ€” SLOW/OCCASIONAL

๐Ÿชฑ Baits & Rigs

  • Kingfish: bloodworms and Fishbites on small hooks, high-low bottom rigs
  • Nearshore wreck/reef trips: squid strips and Gulp for sea bass over structure
  • Occasional keeper flounder mixed in on minnow/Gulp combos near any pier pilings or troughs

โฐ Best Times & Tide

  • Early morning and last two hours of daylight โ€” beat the midday heat and pressure
  • Fish tight to the beach in the first sandbar trough on an incoming tide

๐Ÿ“ Where

Work the surf zone troughs and cuts up and down the beach; kingfish are showing along the entire stretch. Nearshore boats are working structure and wrecks a few miles off the beach for sea bass.

๐Ÿ’ง Water

Warm summer surf temps, typical late-summer haze/algae can affect clarity after wind events โ€” check color before committing to a spot.

Guide tip: Kingfish are the most consistent action on the ocean beach right now โ€” small hooks and light leader out-produce heavier flounder rigs in the surf this week.
2

Rehoboth Bay, DE

Back-bay fishing
Croaker โ€” HOT Flounder โ€” WARM Striped Bass (artificials) โ€” WARM

๐Ÿชฑ Baits & Rigs

  • Croaker: bloodworms, squid, or Fishbites on bottom rigs over soft-bottom holes
  • Flounder: Gulp Swimming Mullet/Crawfish on jigheads, drifted along channel edges and drop-offs
  • Striped bass: soft plastics and small swimbaits worked over grass flats and channel edges

โฐ Best Times & Tide

  • Early morning is essential โ€” the bay gets crowded with boat traffic after 10 a.m. in summer
  • Fish the flats on high water; move to the channels as the tide drops

๐Ÿ“ Where

Channel edges, drop-offs near marked structure, and grass flats throughout the bay. Croaker are thick in the deeper holes off the main channel.

๐Ÿ’ง Water

Typical late-summer bay warmth; clarity is best early before boat traffic stirs up the shallows.

Guide tip: Get on the water at first light. Boat traffic after 10 a.m. shuts down the bite in the bays this time of year โ€” this holds for Rehoboth and Indian River Bay alike.
3

Lewes, DE

Lewes-Rehoboth Canal & Outer Breakers / Delaware Bay
Striped Bass โ€” HOT (Bay run) Sea Bass (wrecks) โ€” WARM Spot/Croaker (canal) โ€” WARM Tautog โ€” CLOSED SEASON

๐Ÿชฑ Baits & Rigs

  • Striped bass: bait and plugs along the beaches; artificials working well in the back bays and along Bay structure
  • Black drum showing in the Delaware Bay alongside stripers โ€” clam baits on fish-finder rigs
  • Sea bass: squid strips and Gulp jigged deep over wrecks โ€” full-day trips recommended since fish are holding deep
  • Canal: bloodworms/squid for spot and croaker along the bulkheads and deeper bends

โฐ Best Times & Tide

  • Moving tide (either direction) through the canal produces best current flow for bait presentation
  • Outer breakwater bite improves on the last of the incoming tide

๐Ÿ“ Where

Delaware Bay beaches near Lewes for cruising striped bass; the canal itself for spot/croaker/flounder; offshore wrecks for the deep sea bass bite (tog season currently closed).

๐Ÿ’ง Water

Delaware Bay running warm; the striper run has fish shallow enough to sight-cast plugs along the beach in the right light.

Regs reminder: Delaware Bay and tributaries striped bass slot (July 1โ€“Aug 31) is 20โ€“25 inches, one fish per day. Note this slot does not apply at Indian River Inlet โ€” see below.
4

Indian River Inlet, DE

Both jetties โ€ข Inlet mouth โ€ข Indian River Bay behind it
Triggerfish/Sheepshead/Tog โ€” HOT (rocks) Flounder โ€” WARM (back of inlet) Bluefish โ€” WARM (mornings) Striped Bass โ€” GOOD AT NIGHT

๐Ÿชฑ Baits & Rigs

  • Triggerfish, sheepshead, tog: sand fleas or green crabs fished tight to the rocks on both jetties
  • Flounder: Gulp on jigheads or live minnows fished tight to structure on the calm, down-current side; yellow/chartreuse Gulp is working best in the current dirty water
  • Bluefish: bucktails and metal lures worked under the Route 1 bridge, early morning
  • Striped bass (night): live eels and floating fleas after dark, switching to soft plastics in the early morning hours
  • Small black drum ("puppy drum") appearing on crab baits near the rocks

โฐ Best Times & Tide

  • Blues: daytime incoming tide, especially early under the bridge
  • Striper bite is best at night due to heat and boat traffic โ€” plan an after-dark trip
  • Indian River Bay (behind inlet): fish the flats on high water, channels on low water, and be off the water before 10 a.m. boat traffic ramps up

๐Ÿ“ Where

North and south jetty rocks for triggerfish/sheepshead/tog; back-inlet current seams and rock edges for flounder; under the bridge for blues; the bay flats and channels behind the inlet for the early morning bite.

๐Ÿ’ง Water

Inlet water temp running about 67ยฐF โ€” a touch cool for peak summer, which is helping keep bluefish pushing through on the incoming tide. Water has some color/dirt in it currently, favoring brighter Gulp colors.

Regs reminder: The 20โ€“25" Delaware Bay striper slot does NOT apply at Indian River Inlet. The Inlet stays on the standard 1 fish/day, 28โ€“31" slot.
5

Ocean City, MD

Surf โ€ข OC Inlet/Pier โ€ข Nearshore & Offshore
Kingfish (surf) โ€” HOT Triggerfish (jetties) โ€” HOT Yellowfin Tuna (offshore) โ€” HOT Flounder โ€” WARM Croaker (bay/pier) โ€” WARM

๐Ÿชฑ Baits & Rigs

  • Surf kingfish: bloodworms, small hooks, tight to the beach โ€” best early and late to avoid the heat
  • OC Inlet jetty rocks: sand fleas/green crabs for the thick trigger, tautog and sheepshead bite
  • Bay/back structure and nearshore wrecks: Gulp and live minnows for flounder, mixed with sea bass over reef structure
  • Talbot Street Pier: squid and Fishbites for spot and croaker, bucktails for the bluefish moving through
  • Offshore: trolled ballyhoo/lures for a steady mahi bite; live-lined baits and jigs for yellowfin over 100 lbs and an active bluefin bite (Sunset Marina fleet)

โฐ Best Times & Tide

  • Surf/kingfish: early morning and evening, out of peak sun and heat
  • Offshore boats running roughly 60โ€“130 miles for tuna grounds โ€” full-day/overnight trips

๐Ÿ“ Where

Ocean beach troughs for kingfish; both OC Inlet jetties for triggers/tog/sheepshead; nearshore wrecks and reefs for flounder/sea bass; canyon and offshore grounds (reports of trips 60โ€“130+ miles out) for tuna, mahi, and marlin.

๐Ÿ’ง Water

Warm late-summer surf and bay temps; water clarity is the swing factor for surf success day to day โ€” check conditions before heading out.

Tournament wrap-up: The 53rd annual White Marlin Open ran Aug 3โ€“8 with 334 boats fishing for nearly $10 million in prize money. Winning fish: an 80-lb white marlin worth over $3.5M, boated by Bill Sharpe aboard Mister Pete. Second place went to Reel Hunter with a 71.5-lb white marlin (~$355,000). Mister Pete also topped several other white marlin categories, while MaxBet led multiple blue marlin jackpots.
Fleet notes: Sunset Marina boats have been posting strong yellowfin numbers (several trips in the 6โ€“18 fish range, some fish over 100 lbs) along with an active bluefin bite. Oyster Bay Tackle's weekly Monday report has noted large croaker (10โ€“14") moving into the bay behind Ocean City on squid and Fishbites.
